Janet Whalen, Master Piper P/M Janet Whalen began piping at the age of nine. Her primary instruction came from her father, P/M Frank Hudak. Janet became the first female piper in the Yonkers Kilty Pipe Band, and one of a very few brave women to compete in a pipe band contest in the United States in the late 1950's. Janet assumed Pipe Major of the Amerscot Highland Pipe Band on January 1, 1998 following the retirement of her father, P/M Frank C. Hudak. Under her guidance, the Amerscots have exploded in numbers. Currently fielding a band of 40 plus musicians. Her patience seems limitless, and she has been able to inspire a love of the pipes just as her father inspired in his students. Following in Franks footsteps is a tall order, but one that Janet is doing a fine job at. Janet teaches students at the beginner and intermediate level most nights of the week and may be contacted via email at pmamerscot@aol.com or telephoned at (845) 889-8342.
